Grit Removal Systems

The head work of most sewage treatment plants requires equipment to remove sand, gravel, coffee, seeds, etc. from the raw sewage. TLC systems can operate coarse and fine screens as required based upon diffuser levels across the screen in an automated fashion. The systems can also include septage handling, odor control and flow equalization. Grid removal systems assist in preventing mechanical wear and increased maintenance on wastewater treatment equipment.

Medium Voltage Motor Starters

In addition to standard low voltage controls (less than 1000 volt) TLC can also provide medium voltage motor starters rated up to 5000 volts. These starters are typically used for larger deep well submersible pumps rated 200 horsepower and above where power leads can exceed several hundred feet in length. Increasing the voltage to 2400 volts drastically reduces the wire size needed to feed these pumps. Reducing wire size intern lowers suspended weight of the wire as well as its cost.

PLC Controls

Programmable Logic Controllers are today's standard in most water and wastewater plants. Very sophisticated logic can be performed using PLCs and changes in sequence do not require rewiring the control panel. TLC is happy to quote and integrate ANY PLC specified to complete a working system. Please see the PLC article in the Technology dropdown

SCADA

SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) refers to computer systems that monitor and control industrial, infrastructural, or facility-based processes. Any Industrial or Infrastructural process can use and integrate the benefits of dynamic and historical operational control. Typical use is fresh and wastewater, manufacturing and HVAC, in continuous, batch, repetitive, or discrete modes.

Solar Energy

Solar Collector Array Control

When the sun shines all is good.  Controls turn on a solar pump whenever solar energy is available and turn the pump off when sufficient solar energy is no longer available (a rainy day).  This operation is an on/off control between the collector and storage tanks.  Large operations have many more requirements such as charge regulation, battery backup and alarms.

Alarm Systems

Alarm Systems come in many variations from a simple alarm horn or light to full panel stand-alone systems. TLC incorporates audiovisual system panels using web based, cellular, telephone auto-dialing and video monitoring technologies. Capabilities include power failures, temp extremes, humidity, water incursion, sounds, burglar/smoke, listening and many other captured events.

clarifier control__edited.jpg

Clarifier Controls

Clarification is the oldest and most widely used operation in the effective treatment of wastewater.  The operation consists of removing sediment, turbidity and floating material from raw wastewater by scraping the top, adding water while forcing sediment to the bottom for additional processing.  Clarifier controls monitor the force required to rotate the scraping mechanism and shut down the system when torque is exceeded, preventing mechanical failure to the motor, gears or drive shaft.

condensate with panel regular3.jpg

Condensate Return

Condensate return is one of the processes within a Boiler and Heating system controlling water level, temperature and pressure. Steam Condensate is formed when steam  transfers heat to a liquid. Steam condensate is collected in condensate tanks and returned to the boiler. TLC will monitor tank levels and operate condensate return pumps and vacuum pumps as required.

Filter backwash

Filter Backwash / Blowdown

TLC Control panels monitor flow rate going through filters and trigger automatic backwash cycles to flush debris from the filters. Flushing can be accomplished with water, air or brine water in the case of water softening filters.

Pressure Boosters

Pressure booster pumps are required in high-rise, multistory buildings to boost city pressures in reaching the upper floors. Booster pumps can be cycled on & off via pressure switches and time in simple configurations.  More advanced systems use Time Delay Relays and Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) to maintain constant pressure and save energy costs.

Septage Receiving Systems

"Septage” is the liquid and solid material pumped from a septic tank, cesspool, other primary municipal or private source. Septic is routinely transported to a Waste Water Treatment Plant for processing. TLC systems are used at wastewater treatment plants to monitor and record the volume of septage it receives so the septage received can be "billed" accordingly.

Combined Storm Overflow Systems

When the combined sewer system exceeds capacity, the overflow is captured and stored in a reservoir until the incident has passed.  Once flow has recovered a TLC system will remove solids, chlorinate then return sewage gradually to the wastewater treatment plant.

cooling tower var speed 1 q28729fhi1.jpg

Cooling Towers

Cooling towers are used to remove heat from process water or chillers using a combination of fans and pumps. Water is pumped from a reservoir to the tower where fans are used to remove the heat. The fans can run at constant or variable speeds for consistent temperature control while providing energy savings.

gas open 300.jpg

Gas Detection

High concentrations of certain gases can be fatal or explosive.  When the gas detector alarm goes off the building/facility needs to be evacuated and typically ventilated. TLC controls can turn on intake and exhaust fans along with other plant control processes. Detection within waste water plants is used to notify the facility of chlorine leaks as chlorine is used in sewage, potable water treatment and, stored at the facility in high pressure tanks. Detection is also used within many other Industries to protect lives, communities and the plants own infrastructure, for example; the Steel & Petrochemical industries.

packaged lift sta 4 q29029a ley2.jpg

Lift Stations Simples, Duplex, Triplex

By far the most common usage of TLC Control Panels is to lift sewage. Lift stations are used for pumping wastewater or sewage from a lower to higher elevation, and where the elevation of the source is not sufficient for gravity flow. Key elements of lift/pump stations include a wastewater receiving well (wetwell), equipped with lift pumps and piping with valves, a junction box, and an equipment control panel with alarm system. TLC systems provide reliable control, from simple sump pumps with fractional HP to Large Municipal wetwells using several hundred HP pumps.

Sludge Conveyor Systems

Sludge conveyor control panels operate lifting, horizontal and transverse conveyors to lift and transport de-watered sludge to sludge hoppers, haulers or solar drying beds. Our PLC based controls fill the hoppers evenly from front to back using pneumatic gates and ultrasonic level transducers. Operators use the HMI touch screen to select hopper / hauler truck size, level to fill to and which bay truck is located. Operator can also select "solar" and the sludge will be conveyed to the drying beds where dried by the sun's rays.
